An Holistic Approach to Organisational Design and Alignment

A Virtual Programme on Fridays, 5 June — 24 July 2015

This month we visited the Sizinda Community in Zimbabwe. In 2011, the villagers could grow only 3 to 4 months’ worth of food, and were divided about how to proceed. Today, they grow 80% of their food and are strongly united. A key part of their success is that the entire community aligned around a shared Holistic Context. They test every decision against their Holistic Context, below:

Holistic Context

The Life We Want

  • A life of plenty with enough food for people, livestock, and wildlife
  • A peaceful and harmonious life with enough knowledge, enough water, enough money
  • We need to impact our land so we don’t lose livestock and so that we have elephants, buffalo and hyena

The Forms of Production For Creating The Life We Want

  • To plan our grazing
  • To cover our soil
  • To impact and fertilize our crop fields with animals
  • To get knowledge from advisors on cropping and livestock husbandry
  • To be united as a people

The Future We Desire

  • People? We want healthy people who have dignity, are wise and clever, are united, are diligent in working, and are wealthy.
  • Buildings? We want good schools, healthcare facilities, good road networks, and beautiful homes.
  • Land? We want fertile land with diverse wildlife, diverse fruits, and diversity of life.
It is just this sort of holistic design and alignment process that will be the focus of our upcoming virtual programme, “Organisational Design and Alignment”. This virtual programme is for leaders and practitioners who wish to know how to lead organisations through a natural design and alignment process that creates the healthy life conditions for a thriving culture that holds a “life-in-total” perspective. This programme is for those who are ready to design, lead and inspire organisations through challenges such as:
  • Employees who are disengaged and uninspired.
  • Innovation that is lacklustre.
  • Out-of-date governance or business systems that constrain productivity.
  • Strategic positioning that is behind the times.
  • Leadership that lacks the know-how to lead through complexity.
